Welfare and Safeguarding

At Kingfisher Harriers, the safety, welfare and wellbeing of everyone involved in our club is a priority.

We are committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment where children, young people and adults can enjoy athletics free from abuse, bullying, harassment, discrimination and inappropriate behavior.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. We encourage all members, parents, guardians, coaches and volunteers to raise concerns, however small they may initially seem.

Our Club Welfare Officer

Kelly Higgs – Lead Welfare Officer
Email: welfare@kingfisherharriers.com

Kelly is the club's main point of contact for safeguarding and welfare matters. This email account is accessed by Kelly alone, allowing concerns to be raised discreetly.

You can contact Kelly if you have concerns about your own welfare, another member's safety, inappropriate behaviour, bullying, or anything else affecting someone's wellbeing within the club.

All concerns will be taken seriously, treated sensitively and shared only with those who need the information to help protect those involved.

Reporting a Safeguarding Concern

If you are concerned about a child, young person or adult, please contact our Lead Welfare Officer.

You do not need to establish whether abuse has occurred before raising a concern. It is important to report what you have seen, heard or experienced rather than attempting to investigate the matter yourself.

If someone is in immediate danger or requires urgent assistance, call 999.

You can also report a concern directly to the governing bodies:

UK Athletics Safeguarding Team: safeguarding@uka.org.uk

England Athletics Welfare Team: welfare@englandathletics.org

You may contact UK Athletics directly if you would prefer not to report a concern through the club, or if your concern relates to the Club Welfare Officer. - England Athletics – Reporting a Concern

Our Safeguarding Policies

Kingfisher Harriers adopts the child and adult safeguarding policies and procedures of UK Athletics and England Athletics.

These provide the framework for preventing harm, recognising safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately when concerns arise.

The club also maintains its own Safeguarding Adoption and Local Arrangements document, which explains how we implement these requirements during club activities.

Safeguarding Our Junior Members

We want every junior athlete to feel safe, supported and able to enjoy their athletics.

Kingfisher Harriers uses ConnectMyClub to manage session bookings and attendance. Places may be limited to ensure appropriate levels of coaching and volunteer supervision.

Coaches and session leaders record attendance at the beginning of each session.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to remain nearby and contactable during sessions in case their assistance is needed.

Dropping off and collecting junior athletes

Junior athletes must be collected by a parent, guardian or another adult authorised by their parent or guardian.

Parents and guardians should inform the coach or session leader before the session if someone different will be dropping off or collecting their child.

Where collection arrangements are unclear, the coach or session leader will seek confirmation before allowing the child to leave.

If a parent or authorised adult is delayed, the child will remain appropriately supervised while contact is made using the details held by the club.

ConnectMyClub and Guardian PINs

Junior members' ConnectMyClub profiles are protected by a Guardian PIN.

This allows authorised adults to manage a junior's profile, book sessions and communicate through the app.

Parents and guardians should keep Guardian PINs secure and share them only with people they authorise to manage the junior's membership.

Please also ensure that emergency contact details and any relevant medical information are kept up to date.

If you are unsure of your Guardian PIN or need it resetting, please contact the club secretary from the email address registered on ConnectMyClub - Email: Secretary@kingfisherharriers.com

Our Commitment

Kingfisher Harriers is committed to safeguarding best practice, appropriate recruitment and training of coaches and volunteers, and maintaining an environment where everyone feels confident to speak up.

If something doesn't feel right, please tell us.
